Catalyx is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join our team and work on our customer site in Cork.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out all maintenance and fabrication activities in strict accordance with site EHS requirements, including Permit to Work (PTW) and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.

  • Execute work in line with approved SOPs, risk assessments, and method statements at all times.

  • Actively participate in site safety initiatives, including toolbox talks, safety training, emergency drills, and the reporting of near misses or unsafe conditions.

  • Perform daily plant walk-downs, routine inspections, and preventative maintenance activities across utilities and process equipment.

  • Inspect, test, and maintain safety-critical equipment, including safety showers and eyewash stations.

  • Monitor and maintain fans, pumps, valves, pipework, and associated utility systems to ensure reliable operation.

  • Conduct routine checks on production skids, identifying leaks, vibration, abnormal noise, or component wear.

  • Troubleshoot and repair rotating equipment, including centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, carrying out seal changes, alignment, and bearing replacements as required.

  • Remove, service, repair, and reinstall a range of valve types, including ball, butterfly, diaphragm, and check valves.

  • Select and replace gaskets and seals, ensuring appropriate chemical compatibility.

  • Fabricate and install new process pipework and mechanical components to site and quality standards.

  • Perform TIG welding on thin-wall stainless steel pipework, including purging and sanitary welding where required.

  • Cut, fit, and join plastic pipework systems such as PVC, PVDF, and PP using solvent welding or fusion techniques.

  • Support mechanical installation, modification, and upgrade activities during projects, planned shutdowns, and turnaround periods.

  • Use the site CMMS to receive work orders, record labour hours, log spare parts usage, and close out maintenance tasks accurately.

  • Review SOPs, risk assessments, and technical documentation via the electronic document management system prior to commencing work.


Requirements:

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or Fabrication / Welding or equivalent number of years experience.

  • Proven TIG welding experience on stainless steel and hands-on experience with plastic pipework systems.

  • Comfortable using computer systems for CMMS, email, and electronic documentation.

  • Strong safety mindset with a valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification, or willingness to renew.

  • Experience with confined space entry, working at height, or breathing apparatus is highly advantageous.
