Catalyx is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join our team and travel to customer sites around Ireland to support the installation and service of our products. This role will require some overnight stays.

The Role :

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for deploying and installing automation systems and equipment in various industrial settings. This role involves working closely with clients, project managers, and internal teams to ensure the successful implementation of automation solutions. The Field Service Engineer must possess strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a customer-focused mindset to deliver high-quality installations and support services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the installation, configuration, and testing of automation systems, including hardware and software components, according to project requirements and technical specifications.

  • Provide on-site support during the installation phase, troubleshooting issues, and resolving technical problems to ensure system functionality and performance.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and customers to develop installation plans, schedules, and milestones, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.

  • Demonstrate expertise in automation technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, sensors, actuators, and networking protocols.

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of installation procedures, configurations, and system changes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards and regulations.

  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of installed systems to verify functionality, performance, and compliance with specifications, making adjustments as necessary.

  • Provide training to end-users and maintenance staff on system operation, troubleshooting procedures, and best practices to ensure smooth adoption and ongoing support.

  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines and protocols during installation activities, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and technology enhancements in the installation and deployment of automation systems.

  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by delivering quality installations, addressing customer concerns promptly, and providing responsive support throughout the project lifecycle.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Proven experience in automation system installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency in programming languages relevant to automation (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).

  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation standards and protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).

  • Familiarity with electrical systems, control panel wiring, and instrumentation.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and internal teams.

  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.
